THE MOST FAMOUS WALK IN TOWN
One of the most famous symbols of the city, Las Ramblas is the long walk from Plaza Catalunya to the sea, where you find the statue of Columbus.
There are six avenues, each one with a name and its own history: together they form a one kilometer walk around a continuous show of street performers, mimes, jugglers, musicians and sellers, framed by a large number of shops, bars and restaurants.Life on the Ramblas never stops, night and day. The central part of the avenues is pedestrian, always full of tourists attracted by the colorful and lively atmosphere. The first stretch from the north is the Rambla de los Caneletes, with many antique shops, especially for music lovers. La Rambla dels Estudis is home to the colorful bird market and located close by the CCCB - Centre of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona in the Raval district. Do not miss the Rambla de las Flores, with flowers stalls and the entrance to the Boqueria market, offering the most amazing selection of fresh, traditional and exotic products.
La Rambla dels Caputxins is commonly called Rambla of center, for its location: this is a great meeting point and from here you can visit the beautiful Plaza Reyal with the fountain of the Three Graces and the Gaudi lampposts.La Rambla de Santa Monica is the entrance to the port, with many interesting historical buildings and churches, including the Church of Our Lady of the Sea of Mercy and the Church of Santa Monica, with its baroque cloister. The statue of Christopher Columbus marks the end of the long walk and offers the opportunity to enjoy an exceptional panoramic view from above. From here begins the final stretch, the Rambla del Mar, a route that goes to the dock.
On one side of the Rambla is the Barri Gotic (Gothic Quarter) with its medieval architecture, its typical streets and squares, while the opposite one is the area of Raval.Along Las Ramblas are metro stops allowing easy connections to the rest of the city (Catalunya - Liceu - Dressanes).
