El Jardí bar – Oasis in the center of Gotico

We all love the Barrio Gotico - FACT!

This time we want to share an amazing spot where you cool down in the shades of the trees and enjoy  having a cerveza: El Jardí Bar Beautiful small streets, ancient building, nice little squares and many many things to see and do. But well.. being honest, sometimes it can get quite stressfull there, first of all when you are not used to all the hustle and bustle of a big city. Escaping is not that easy.. the chiringuitos at the beach seem way too far away and all the terraces on the squares are packed as well. But.. we found an amazing spot for you - directly in the old town of the city - where you can cool down in the shades of the trees and enjoy some minutes of (relatively) silence while having a cerveza. Llamber Tavern – El Born

New and very stylish restaurant in Born

burger_llamberWandering trough my "barrio" I always keep my eyes open for changes - new bars, shops, restaurants etc. El Born is like the heart of Barcelona, you can almost hear it beating. It has its own very special and lively atmosphere and contrasts, which can't be much bigger: strolling around Carrer de l'Argenteria and Passeig del Born, which are always full of life, filled with locals and people from all over the world. But in the next moment you find yourself in one of the beautiful narrow streets or in the impressive Santa Maria del Mar church, escaped from the small and busy boulevards into the silence. llamber_barelonaWell..my thoughts start straying away from the actual purpose of my post today. So.. what I have found was the new...

LLAMBER TAVERN

This new and very stylish restaurant, opened in the end of 2012, is located next to the Born market and in 1 min distance to the Parc de la Ciutadella. Barcelona is famous for Tapas, but what young Asturian chef Franciso Heras and his team is serving, is Haute Cuisine of the typical Tapas. Fran already worked in the famous El Bulli with Ferrán Adriá and opened now his second Llamber (first one in Avilés in Asturias 3 years ago) in Barcelona. llamber_arrozThe Llamber is a modern concept of gastronomy, characterized by a creative tapas menu at affordable prices in a relaxed, modern, but informal atmosphere meeting those characteristics of a typical Spanish tavern. The ingredients are coming directly from the market, using regional and seasonable products, which Fran and his team turn into delicious creations. When you enter the restaurant you find first a bar where you can have a drink and enjoy a "tapa" with it. If you walk through, you get into the dining area.

Here a little excerpt of the menu:

- Parmesan fondue with shrimps and asparagus - Marinated salmon with citrus, dill and ginger ice cream - Steam Mussels with garlic and parsley - Mini Burger with Goat Cheese, mache and nuts - Homemade foie gras terrine with textured corn - Fresh cod with guacamole. - Cured pork tenderloin stuffed with Rey Silo cheese, peaches and almonds llamber_pulpoAn amazing meal needs to be accompanied by an amazing wine - I can tell you, it is not easy to choose one of the 30 different open wines or the more than 100 different bottles offered in Llamber. I think, I said enough... Discover it and let yourself be taken on a journey through the fantastic cuisine of Llamber. Restaurant Llamber Carrer de la Fusina 5 08003 Barcelona Metro: L4 Jaume I or Barceloneta, L1 Arc de Triomf open: Monday to Sunday from 12:00 - 3:00 P. S. Being in such a great location, the best choice for after dinner drinks is heading over to one (or more) of the bars on Passeig del Born, like Miramelinda or Cactus. And if you are around the neighborhood check here More information about El Born. credits pics: Facebook of Llamber

La Hacienda – mexican restaurant in Barcelona

La Hacienda is located in the popular and fashionable Born district and just 15 mins walk from Las Ramblas. In this restaurant, which was opened in 2010, you will feel like in Mexico thanks to its colorful decor and furniture, details directly imported from the country, reminiscent of a traditional Mexican cantina. la_hacienda_bcnLa Hacienda is, how could it be otherwise, specialized in Mexican cuisine. You can enjoy there all kinds of typical dishes of Mexico, among them nachos, enchiladas, guacamole, fajitas or quesadillas. (more...)

The Barri Gotic, its Catalan name (Gothic Quarter), is no doubt the true heart of the city. In its labyrinth of winding streets and asymmetric squares which goes from the famous Las Ramblas to the sea at ‘Drassanes’ you can find some really good Tapas places and restaurants.. here our recommendations: 4_gats_barcelona
ELS QUATRE GATS

Juicy Jones – vegetarian and vegan food in Barcelona

Vegetarian and vegan friends in Barcelona!!! I know it is quite difficult for you to find a place to eat properly in jamon-loving spain. Therefore I am even happier to introduce you.... JUICY JONES - a vegan and vegetarian restaurant in Barcelona!!! Juicy Jones vegan vegetarian restaurant Barcelona
In Juicy Jones you get really good, tasty and healthy food without any animal products.
To be honest: I am not vegan, not even vegetarian.. but I do love this restaurant. A vegan friend invited me one day to go there and try it..I was deeply surprised how good and tasty vegan food can be.
They also offer really good fruit juices, smoothies and shakes - delicioso drinks, which give you an energy boost.
You can enjoy the Menu del Dia, which gives you a choice of appetizer, main course, dessert, and beverage, for a very reasonable price of 8,50 €. You should definitely try the "Thali" there, one of the best I have ever had.
Juicy Jones restaurant barcelona
Juicy Jones has a really funky, kind of  "Gaudi-esque" design inside, which seems a bit psychedelic. Basically the walls are as bright and colorful as a nicely filled fruitbowl. So sometimes it might be a bit difficult to concentrate on the menu without getting distracted by the design of the restaurant. The staff is really friendly and you feel very welcome there.
You can find this vegan spot just off the Ramblas, the closest Metro station is Liceu, the green line #3. Here a little video of Juicy Jones.. also interesting when you are not speaking spanish ;)
Here is a little guide and some useful spanish phrases for you to survive without the piglegs in Barcelona: click here

La Taguara Restaurant in Barcelona

Delicious Arepas in the middle of Born district

La taguara restaurant Barcelona

To talk about La Taguara, an amazing restaurant located in Born, Barcelona, first of all we have to explain what is the meaning of “Arepa”: According with the Wikipedia definition, an arepa is a dish made of ground corn dough or cooked flour, popular in Venezuela and other Spanish-speaking countries. But, if we take the definition from the point of view of those who have tried, we could say that is a fantastic, healthy and unique dish.

La taguara barcelona

La Taguara is a Venezuelan restaurant specialized in arepas with all kinds of ingredients such as chicken, tuna, meat, cheese, avocado etc. The place is really cozy although you have to eat standing. The atmosphere is really cool with good music, colorful mask  and typical Venezuelan decoration.

Our favorites dishes in La Taguara are “La pelúa” (meat and cheese), “reina pepeada”(chicken and avocado, “sifrina” (chicken, yellow cheese and avocado)  y la “Catira”(Chicken and yellow cheese).

LECHUGA Superpizzas

Try the best pizzas in town!

Today I am NOT going to introduce you to another Tapas restaurant out of the countless ones we have in Barcelona, neither to a Paella restaurant.. no! Today I want to present you one my personal favorites (and of a lot other people here) in Barcelona: LECHUGA superpizzas! Lechuga is located in Carrer dels Escudellers, right in front of the popular “Los Caracoles” restaurant. You can easily get there from Plaza Reial or Las Ramblas.

“Ahh and if you search for the best pizza place in Barcelona, go to Lechuga.. wait, u have a piece of paper and a pen?.. I will write u down the address.. yeah.. there u go and u definitely have to try the goat cheese pizza with honey.. its amazing, u will never forget it”

I don’t know how often I said that since I am living here in Barcelona.

All the pizzas in Lechuga are made with best ingredients and fresh out of the oven! The guys in Lechuga have created awesome toppings, like: bacon and barbecue sauce or goat cheese with honey.. and lately they also had pizza with salmon. Besides that you can get pizza with rocket, pesto, chorizo, different kinds of cheese, spinach, pesto, ham, tuna and so on. They also always have pizzas for vegetarians..with artichokes, courgettes, sweet corn, pepper, mushrooms etc. They also provide bottles with extra barbecue sauce, honey, Tabasco sauce, spicy oil and oil with herbs if you want to pimp your pizza a bit or can’t get enough of the barbecue sauce (like me). The pizza slices are pretty big there and you get one for 2 €. A can of beer, coke etc. or a water is just 1 €. The guys there are really nice and in Lechuga you can really see everybody grabbing a slice of pizza there – from business men in suits to skaterboys.

When you are in Barcelona, do not miss this place! And don’t forget: TRY THE GOAT CHEESE PIZZA WITH HONEY! ;)

By the way..Escudellers is in general a really cool street off of the Ramblas with a lot of nice bars there (f.e.” Ryans” and the “Tequila Bar” with headphones everywhere). At the end of the street you will find the famous Plaza de George Orwell.
