SITGES – International Fantasty Film Festival of Catalonia

SITGES – International Fantasty Film Festival of Catalonia is widely considered to be the number one fantasy and horror film festival in the world and and encompasses everything cultural about Catalonia. The Sitges Film Festival is a culmination of the best fantasy films from all over the world. Sitges film festival 2015 Established in 1967, the festival will take place this year from the 9-18th October in the coastal resort of Sitges, 34 kilometers West-South-West of the city of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Sitges’ status as the number one fantasy film festival in the world allows it to receive visits from top-level movie stars, directors and producers like Quentin Tarantino, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Jodie Foster, Paul Verhoeven, Ralph Fiennes, George A. Romero, Cameron Diaz, Viggo Mortensen, Terry Gilliam, Rutger Hauer, Sarah Michelle Gellar, John Landis, Joe Dante, Zoë Bell, Dino de Laurentii, Takashi Miike, Wim Wenders, Tony Curtis, David Cronenberg, Vanessa Redgrave, Darren Aronofsky, Brad Dourif, John McNaughton, Peter Greenaway, John Woo, Park Chan-Wook, Johnnie To, Paul Naschy, Ray Liotta, Jon Voight, Sam Raimi, Robert Englund, Tarsem Singh, Roger Corman, Mira Sorvino, Santiago Segura, Narciso Ibáñez Serrador, Guillermo del Toro, Kim Ki Duk, Álex de la Iglesia, Aitana Sánchez Gijón, among others from the long list of people who, year after year, are a media attraction. The Festival is governed by a Foundation, made up of representatives from the Sitges Town Council, the Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalonia’s autonomous government) and other institutions, associations and public and private companies. Most of its resources come from the sponsors, companies and collaborating institutions that offer aid to the festival and get involved in order to broaden their horizons and help a fantastic festival to take place. Since 1971 the festival has given awards to the best films, actors, and filmmakers. The Maria Award winners are the main awards of the festival, and are chosen by an international jury. They are:

  • Best Cinematography
  • Best Original Score
  • Best Short Film
  • Best Makeup Effects
  • Best Production Design
The festival also presents:
  • The Infinia Award for Best Special Effects
  • The Noves Visions Award
  • The Carnet Jove Jury Award
  • An Award for the Best New Director
  • The Gertie Awards for Best Animated Short and Feature Film
  • The Grand Audience Award (Gran Premi del Públic), which is awarded according to the votes of the festival's spectators.
  • The Midnight X-Treme Award, which is given to the best motion picture from the special screenings (and is chosen by the Carnet Jove Jury)

Sitges: International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia 2014

Watch out, fantasy fans, here comes something great! For the already - and quiet impressive - 47th time the “International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia” is about to return to the great city of Sitges. bcn_sitges_Toni Villaró If you’re a lover of fantasy of all kinds you shouldn’t think twice about attending  this event. The Sitges edition is known for being the number one fantasy film festival in the world and has developed into an appreciated establishment. Since the first international week of sci-fi and horror in 1968 the festival has spread its wings and has become a more than reliable barometer when it comes to new and futuristic technologies and trends. From this year’s October 3rd to 12th visitors can benefit from encounters, exhibitions, screenings, presentations and Co. and get completely lost in the event’s surreal atmosphere. But Catalonia’s foremost film festival isn’t just a big excitement for interested spectators: since an international jury honors the best films, actors and filmmakers with the “Maria” award - plus the festival hosts several other award shows,too - the event is also of great importance for a professional audience. Sitges celebrates 46th Filmfestival

World's Fantasy film festival presents the new form of film creation of 2013

sitges festival Since 1968 Sites gets ready every year for the International Week of Fantasy and Horror Movies. Year by year, more and more movie lovers and audiences are coming to Sitges to discover the new technologies in the world of the film and audiovisual. In this week Catalonia gets the most media impact from all over the world. Also this year for the 46th Film festival Sitges will welcome Top Stars like it did in the past. Quentin Tarentino, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Jodie Foster, Cameron Diaz, Ralph Fiennes and a lot of other stars enjoyed the atmosphere at the Costa Brava. The focus this year will be on the latest works from the filmmakers like Takashi Miike or Johnnie To. Meanwhile new fantastic genre talents will be introduced in 2013. Sitges Carnival 2012

16th to the 22nd of February 2012 Finally! Sitges Carnival is here, now it is time to party and enjoy craziest parade in Catalunya. carnaval-sitges

Sitges Carnival is a wild, colourful 'Mardi Grass type carnival. More than 40 floats filled with beautiful people, fancy dressed and wild costumes. All people dance and party around the streets and most of them dress up with fun costumes.

The carnival has two special parades due to be on Sunday and Tuesday; the Rua de la Disbauxa and the Rua de l‘Extermini respectively. In Tuesday afternoon, children in fancy dress & costumes used to have their own parade.

Although the carnival is in winter, it is considered one of the hottest party in Catalunya, however, dress warm! (gloves, leggings, and many layers as possible). Also it is a good idea have a reserve of hot drinks and some with a bit of liquor.

Thursday 16th February 2012 - Queen and King of Carnival presentation.

Sunday 19th February 2012 Carnival starts with the Rua de la Disbauxa Parade rout: Cap de la Vila, Parellades, Bonaire, Passeig de la Ribera, Fragata,l’Avinguda Sofiaand return to carrer Espanya,Plaça Espanya, Espalter, Sant Francesc, Cap de la Vila.

Tuesday 21st February 2012 Rua de l’Extermini Parade rout: Cap de la Vila, Parellades, Bonaire, Passeig de la Ribera,Fragata, l’Avinguda Sofia and return to carrer Espanya, Plaça Espanya, Espalter, Sant Francesc, Cap de la Vila.

Wednesday 22nd February 2012 The Kings Funeral Procession Parade rout: Plaça Ajuntament, Major, Cap de la Vila, Parellades, Bonaire, Passeig de la Ribera (les Barques beach / plage de les Barques).
